You might've heard of Dr. Johnny Alexander as that chiropractor from TikTok. Or, you might recognize him from his run on reality TV dating show Temptation Island. Or, from any of his multiple podcast appearances because Dr. Johnny really loves to talk chiro *and more.*

Always keeping it real online, Dr. Johnny documents life as a sports chiropractor and owner of Warrior NYC, infused with a healthy dose of motivational fitness and self-care content (plus some of his signature sassy humor).

His dedication to helping recovering athletes mitigate pain was a combination of desperate times matched with fate. Having been diagnosed with ADHD as a kid, he knew a typical desk job likely wasn't going to cut it. Sports and working out had always been the key factors in clearing his mind and sharpening his focus.

Fast forward to senior year, pain was triggered by very real personal trauma — when a car slammed into his bumper, dragging him and his car through the red light, only to then be struck by another car in the intersection.

He's fortunate that the only casualty was his car and that his debilitating neck and hand injury was able to be saved by chiropractic treatment (months of physical therapy only amounted to recurring pain when hitting the gym again). After his success as a chiropractic patient desperate for a long-term solution, the next move was obvious... Dr. Johnny found his calling.

His job is filled with highs and lows, the funny and the sad. It all comes down to the people he meets and treats.

Without further ado, I present to you some of his most memorable patient-related experiences, for better or for worse.

Last year one of my patients, George Santos (you might’ve heard of him), was in the news a lot due to a political scandal involving his position as a US congressman. He came to my office for treatment of a lower back issue and was sitting in our waiting room at Warrior NYC with a hat and sunglasses disguise to avoid being recognized. The girl sitting next to him happens to pull out a newspaper to read while waiting for her visit, and George Santos was on the cover of it. You never know who you’ll run into at Warrior!

Recently, I was asked to do a home visit for a very famous pop star who lives in our neighborhood. This person has been a long-time client of mine, but he prefers to be seen in the comfort of his apartment to avoid being seen by paparazzi. We had a great chiropractic session, and I got him all ready to go on tour the next day. Afterwards, we were both walking out of his building and a few people on the street recognized him and began to approach. He tried to pull a hoodie over his head, but it was too late... a small crowd began to form, everyone pulling out their phones to record.

Next thing I know, I am acting as the buffer between him and his fans; essentially, I had to push people out of the way and usher him into the back of the car he was taking uptown. His manager later sent me a funny photo that surfaced of the whole thing where I was listed as “his security guard."

One time a reporter faked an ankle injury so she could become a new patient at Warrior NYC. It was immediately following my stint on the reality TV show Temptation Island. During the entire appointment, she was digging for “behind the scenes” dirt on other cast members, my experience on the island, things that would be aired in upcoming episodes, etc. I realized what was going on about halfway through the session, finished working on her ankle, and I never heard from her again.

Luckily, I was signed to a bunch of NDAs at that time, so I was already suspicious and being careful with what I said to anyone outside of NBC. The whole situation really creeped me out once I learned who this person actually was.

A large part of our patient demographic is athletes and distance runners. Last year for the New York City Marathon I had about 20 patients who were running that race, so we all went out to show support on the day of the race. The temperatures were uncharacteristically warm that day, and one of my patients ended up having her marathon cut short because she had a heat stroke a couple of miles into it. I remember seeing her during the early part of the race, but then not being able to meet up with her at the afterparties because she was taken out in an ambulance. Really scary stuff!

One of my patients was a TikTok influencer who was battling a rare cancer and documenting it through her internet post. I got really close with her in a short period of time, and then sadly she passed away. I was devastated when I found out about this for all the obvious reasons, but also, I felt like we were just getting started on her wellness journey. It made me appreciate my own health and I realized that every day on this Earth is truly a blessing.
