Just like mixing metals, gone are the days when wearing white past Labor Day is considered embarrassingly bad form. In fact, breaking fashion conventions is honestly way cooler than playing it safe. Dark colorways when it's 40 degrees out? In the words of Miranda Priestly, “groundbreaking.”
Wait, do you guys remember when we were 15 and wearing black AND brown was more controversial than Brittany Spears shaving her head? Tragic.
With winter whites in full bloom through the spring, we’ve chatted with up-and-coming style tastemaker Alexa Schimel about her favorite all-white fits. My immediate go-to for all things styling, Alexa has a natural talent for coming up with fun, fresh and incredibly fluent combinations I would have literally never thought of.
Whether it’s a funky vintage find from a Parisian thrift store or a fur jacket paired with a Set Active athleisure set, Alexa’s style is the perfect balance of eclectic and high fashion. She literally looks sick in everything… so you’re equal parts dying to be her and wanting to punch her in the face, LOL. Jokes aside, Alexa represents a next-gen "it-girl," and she isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Below, you can find Alexa's all-white mood board for Q1 and beyond.
Trousers are versatile, chic pants that really elevate any look! For the perfect look, I would style white trousers with a black or white cashmere sweater, a black and gold belt and some gold jewelry.
Capes are the ‘it’ thing right now. They're stylish, timeless and perfect for layering and upgrading any winter look! I would style the cape with black trousers, a black turtleneck underneath and some black boots!
A white coat is a MUST for the winter and this oversized one from Frankie Shop is my absolute favorite. You could really style this a million ways. Tone it down with a neutral sweater and some jeans or dress it up with a cream sweater and some beige trousers!
This is another amazing coat for the winter. I love that it comes with a detachable scarf! I am obsessed with an oversized jacket because no matter what you’re wearing underneath, you can throw this baby on and instantly look high-fashion!
Who doesn't love a structured moment? I absolutely love a blazer with some shape. I would style this Aritizia piece with stirrup leggings and some kitten heels. The perfect look for any occasion!
Another way to master the winter-white look is with a maxi skirt! Long skirts are perfect for day or night, making any outfit look sophisticated and elegant. I would pair this with a white turtleneck, a black belt, black boots and some amazing sunnies!
I live for sequins; they are such a fun way to create the perfect winter-white look! To dress down the look a bit, I would pair this skirt with an oversized white sweater and belt it. To style this for nighttime, throw on an oversized white blazer.
When you want to be cozy but still look cute, my go-to is a comfy cable-knit set! This one from H&M is way more elevated than your average pair of sweats and makes the perfect running-around outfit. I would wear this with an overcoat and comfortable shoes (I live in my Birkenstocks!).
Everyone needs a good white turtleneck for the winter! Whether it be a layering piece or on its own, a turtleneck literally goes with everything. I would style it on its own with your favorite pair of jeans and a belt or white trousers for an all-white look! If you’re looking for a more casual fit, style it underneath a cream sweater and some jeans.
Wraps are the biggest accessory right now and I totally understand why! I love this cashmere one from J.Crew because you can wear it on its own or wrap it over a white overcoat!
