You can only survive on $24 smoothies and the adrenaline from scoring that 6 p.m. Surf Lodge deck reservation for so long. At some point this summer, real caffeine will need to enter your bloodstream, and ideally it’s not Hampton Coffee Company. Whether you’re fresh off the beach, en route to Barry’s or hoping to run into a hottie on an inevitably long line, these are the East End coffee spots worth leaving your bed for.

Sagtown Coffee

Website

Location: Sag Harbor

Where you get your morning fix and a front-row seat to watch hungover boat boys attempt to flirt. Coffee is accompanied by gelato, smoothies and lunch options, plus plenty of indoor/outdoor seating to set up shop with a laptop.

Jack’s Stir Brew

Website

Location: Amagansett & Sag Harbor

A solid contender for those who actually drink coffee and not just iced milk. Extra points if you bring a New Yorker tote and pretend you’re just escaping the city “for the week.” Fluent FYI: walk approximately two feet from the entrance and top off your caffeine fix with a bagel from Goldberg’s.

Caffeine Westhampton

Website

Location: Westhampton Beach

The name says it all. This place is for the early risers, the Barry’s loyalists and the people who need to feel alive before 9 a.m. pilates. Highly potent, highly necessary and highly satisfying La Colombe coffee. Nothing more to be said.

Sant Ambroeus

Website

Location: Southampton & East Hampton

Euro chic meets Hamptons old money. This isn’t just a coffee shop. It’s a lifestyle that includes silk head scarves and Birkin bags, packaged into a cappuccino on a marble countertop.

Grindstone Coffee & Donuts

Website

Location: Sag Harbor & East Hampton

Caffeine and carbs for the coastal elite. You came for the iced latte, stayed for the glazed donuts and left with a sugar high and a new man in finance. Or so he claims.

Sagaponack General Store

Website

Location: Sagaponack

Technically not a coffee shop, but IYKYK. It’s one of the few places you can order a cold brew at the same time as a rotisserie chicken, moments after trying on branded merch. Oh, and there’s a garden outside.

Left Hand Coffee

Website

Location: Montauk

You’re barefoot, slightly sunburnt and your hair looks like a rag because you indeed just came from the beach. This is the Montauk coffee spot for cool kids who surf, but still care about their aesthetic.
