The hardest doors in NYC… and how to get in.

After yet another weekend of standing in line at your designated drinking den and bidding farewell to your dignity, you ask yourself—where exactly do the city’s most elite tier of partiers go once night falls? And are mere mortals welcome? To rub elbows with the A-listers, socialites, (wannabe) VIPs and scenesters, there’s a method to the madness…and it requires being a shark in a sea of minnows. Luckily for you, I’ve tested the waters.

Warning: if you don’t have thousands to spend on a table or the general manager on speed dial, you’re already losing. But if there’s a will there’s a way, and nobody said crossing the city’s most plush velvet rope was for the weak.

The Rules:

1. Dress to impress… but commit the fit to the bit. Do a little research on the destination beforehand and know the vibe you’re getting into.

2. Patience! Give it time and read the room.

3. Quiet confidence goes a long way. If you believe you have the right to be inside and you belong there as much as anyone else, this belief will translate to reality.

4. The doormen are your friends. Don’t get testy. Get to know your audience.

5. Keep your crew tight. I hate to say it, but the GC might have to split up on these occasions. The smaller the group, the higher the chances of getting in. If you're a girl going ALONE and meeting friends inside, the deal is basically sealed.

6. Strike a conversation with fellow barred individuals. If you’re not getting in at the moment, you might as well make the sidewalk party a good time. You never know who you could meet (and how they can help facilitate your entry).
