It’s virtually impossible to scroll on Instagram without seeing somebody you know getting engaged. Let’s be clear. I’m extremely happy that Sammi and Jake found their happily ever after, but the cliche “it’s always been you” captions are just the teensiest bit irritating.
And no, I’m not salt-lake-city about this because a ring is nowhere in my near future… ok, maybe. Endless engagements mean endless weddings and, most importantly, endless excuses to buy a new dress.
May is the kickoff to peak wedding season, so keep reading for fun and flirty gowns you should rock at Cipriani or Crystal Plaza this spring... so the cute groomsman asks to get you a drink.
*Note: all dresses were available to purchase at the time this article was written.*
Retrofete Adele Dress In Latte
I could totally see somebody wearing this nude gown for a beach wedding in Mexico… maybe Nizuc? The semi-sheer fabric makes this dress a bit of a bold choice, but I am totally here for it. If you’re going for a super girly look, buy this in the Candy Pink colorway!
Significant Other Jacy Dress in Butter
Yellow is the color of the season, so naturally, the Jacy Dress in Butter is at the very top of my list. Some people are anti-cutouts for weddings (lame), but I’m a proponent (when done tastefully, of course). Wouldn’t you want your guests to look stylish and sexy?
Bec + Bridge Nessie Cowl Maxi Dress
Ok, this piercing blue dress is guaranteed to turn heads… hopefully Tyler's who finally got out of that horrible three-year relationship. The plunging neckline and open-back are hot, but not giving “I’ll go home with you after my third ‘Natalie’s Naked Negroni.'”
Michael Costello x Revolve Soleil Gown
The woman was too stunned to speak.
LPA Estelle Maxi Dress
Still at a loss of words.
Bec + Bridge Solene Asymmetric Dress
This floral-covered gown is such a vibe for a spring wedding in Manhattan. If you tend to dress on the edgier side like me, this mesh gown is a perfect way to lean into spring without being super feminine. Dark florals for spring? Groundbreaking.
Sau Lee Sofia Dress
This hot pink gown is the Solene's older, louder sister... but not in an obnoxious, please shut the fuck up way. In fact, this Sau Lee number manages to be effortlessly elegant despite the bright sateen fabric. The contoured fit is super flattering and would be stunning for a vineyard wedding.
Solace London Lydia Maxi Dress
A long-sleeve dress is always super elegant, no matter the season. Plus, if you don’t love showing your arms (I feel ya, sis), this high-fashion gown is more covered, but still super structured and, honestly, badass. I truly believe Anna Wintour would approve of this dress. Real talk – is it Cerulean?
Helsa Apolla Jersey Dress
I couldn’t resist adding a Helsa dress to this list. This one-shoulder gown has ruched fabric and a pastel yellow color, making it the perfect dress for a Nantucket or North Fork wedding. If Elsa Hosk has anything to do with it, you know it’s getting my stamp of approval.
Norma Kamali Cayla Side Drape Gown In Black
Norma Kamali dresses are the most flattering dresses I own, and this Cayla Side Drape gown is no exception. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think wearing black in spring and summer is the most chic… especially if you’re in Capri or Portofino. I love the asymmetric hem and sweetheart neckline, and for only $150, this dress is an absolute must.
Elliatt Nola Gown In Dark Brown
Just like black, brown is a timeless color that can work 365 days a year. Although there is skin showing, this super chic gown gives “I just threw this on and look fabulous,” even though the reality is “I pre-ordered this four months ago and bought two different sizes.” If you can pull off this dress, you're just that girl.
Helsa The Gallery Dress
Another Helsa slay. That's all.
Retrofete Ember Dress In Latte
This gorgeous Retrofete dress is made for a bridesmaid or even maid-of-honor (if it goes with the color scheme, obv). Between the eye-catching sequins and skin-tight bodice, this gown is an amazing choice for the most special of occasions.
Katie May Yasmin Gown In Light Amethyst
I genuinely don't know the last time I wore purple, but this Katie May gown instantly caught my eye. The light Amethyst, boned bodice and underwire cups make this dress super flirty and femme... a great option for a country club celebration in Westchester or Long Island.
Deme By Gabriella x Revolve Dahlia Gown
Deme by Gabriella is the it-brand of the season. This stunning gown also comes in a yellow and maroon color, but I really am a sucker for black... it feels so old-school New York in the absolute best way possible. I would love to wear this to a wedding at the Plaza or the Pierre.
Solace London Joni Maxi Dress in Magenta
I wore Solace London to my senior prom (classic, lol) and have never looked back. Although this form-fitting gown has a very simple silhouette, the bold pink color makes it a total statement piece without overdoing it. I could totally see somebody wearing this dress in Spain or the South of France.
L'Academie by Marianna Cassia Gown
Yup.
Shona Joy La Lune Plunged Halter Midi Dress
I’m usually not the biggest fan of peach (unless grilled with a balsamic glaze), but this Shona Joy gown is absolutely beautiful. The plunging neckline is super flattering and would look great for a ceremony in Bridgehampton or the Bahamas.
Lovers and Friends Lilium Gown
I think a silver gown is so classy if done correctly (many brands botch a metallic dress, so be careful). I really love everything about this – the halterneck, the open back, the rosette accent detail and, of course, the sequin fabric. This dress screams "wedding party" and would look amazing against the city skyline… maybe Rainbow Room or Gotham Hall?
Sabina Musayev Tinka Dress in Dark Brown
I’m obsessed with the shape of this glittery dress – the padded shoulders, plunge neckline and smoked waist. It really is such a moment. If you want to wear something festive, but not skin-tight, this Sabina Musayev midi is the one… especially if you have a wedding in upstate New York.
Ronny Kobo Yessenia Dress
She gets it.
Helsa Serafina Silk Dress
Not sure I've seen somebody who gets it more.
