What Are You Wearing?
@TheRayList on dressing old-money chic (like I play squash & summer in Cannes, chic).

When it comes to New York City dressing, there is an extremely fine line between dressing on-trend and dressing like the entire Vogue style section threw up on you. “Dressing to impress” doesn’t always mean in-your-face maximalism; trust me, I’ve learned the hard way. The fact that I wore a bright pink fur coat to NYFW still haunts me to this day, but being delulu (or certifiably insane, rather) is to be expected at 23.
You barely know how to drink without texting “Josh Hinge” at 2 a.m., let alone how to dress fashion week chic. *Frantically deletes all text evidence from last night*
I’ll never forget a mentor of mine saying you can easily spot the most important people in the room by what they’re wearing… and they are always the most casual. Don’t wear a neon big bird-esque coat. Noted.
In an effort to save you from making these same mistakes, we’ve chatted with the pinnacle of elevated minimalism, Rachel Cohen. Rachel, the wardrobe stylist behind buzzy fashion blog TheRayList, is so effortlessly stylish that she can literally make a paper bag look like Loewe haute couture.
Rachel’s signature look is a perfectly cut pair of dark-wash denim, a crisp white button-down and a cinched Black blazer paired with elegant gold jewelry. Between her insane Nili Lotan finds and Vogue-cover-worthy wedding content, Rachel has mastered the impossible-to-emulate Sofia Richie aesthetic.
If you’re just as obsessed with the quiet luxury trend as we are, keep reading for Rachel’s “old money-chic” recs.
The Arizona boot is a timeless classic with a sleek, versatile design that goes with just about everything. They’re the perfect finishing touch to any outfit and always elevate my look. They’re actually retiring this style, so now’s the perfect time to grab a pair!
The Yeon satin trench is the most luxurious piece to wear in the evenings, instantly elevating any look. I tend to keep it simple, and this coat adds effortless sophistication to everything I wear.
The Diane blazer is the ultimate black blazer. I have tried many and always come back to this style.
I’d been searching for the perfect pair of elevated baggy jeans for a while and finally found these. They’re pricey, but their unique style and ability to edge up the basics make them absolutely worth it.
Re/Done’s wide-leg trousers offer a polished yet relaxed silhouette, making them the perfect base for a standout outfit. Paired with the Khaite Arizona boots, they create a seamless, elevated look.
This is one of my favorite belts because of its delicate, elegant feel. When I wear all black in the evening, I pair it with this belt and gold jewelry — it's a subtle statement that adds just the right touch without being overpowering.
Getting dressed in 10-degree weather is no fun, but these leggings paired with a black turtleneck, great boots and a wool coat make it effortless. Chic and comfortable, no fuss.
After two years of debating, I finally got the Row zipper boots. I kept waiting for something new, which was a mistake because these boots are simply the best. I should have bought them a long time ago!
A great coat is all you need to look effortlessly chic on the streets. You could be wearing pajamas underneath, and no one would notice if the coat is that good. This black tailored coat is my newest addition, and it’s perfect.
